Lib-dem response to the recession

by admin on 11 April, 2009

Long before the recession took hold, Vince Cable MP was rightly warning us all of the perils of the debt crisis building up in the British economy.  Now we are in the grip one of the most rapid recessions in memory.  Vince Cable and other Lib-dem experts have put together a set of policies that form the Lib-dem recovery plan.

In short the Lib-dems in power would: Vince Cable

  • Take active control of the state owned banks to get lending going again

  • Stimulate the economy through future revenue raising infrastructure development including housing

  • Pay people to work not pay them not to work

  • Not engaging in give-aways with no reward like cutting VAT

Some of these ideas can be implemented at a local as well as national level.  One thing is for certain, this is a time for elected representatives, councillors, or MPs to lead and not to shrink back from taking responsibility

To view the recovery plans see: http://www.libdems.org.uk/news/liberal-democrat-economic-recovery-plan-12693499

As some of these documents were published at the start of the recession a more up to date document is available at http://libdemgroup.lga.gov.uk/lga/aio/1666791
