Good news for local residents living near the Crown public house

by admin on 28 March, 2010

Since the middle of 2009 I, like other Lib-dem Knaphill Councillors, have been receiving complaints about noise from the Crown public house.  I have been able to offer advice to these residents about the need to keep logs of the date, time and specific nature of the disturbance and to put them in contact with the environmental health team at Woking Borough Council, something that most had already been doing.  I also enquired whether the concerns of local residents could be better addressed through licensing rather than the environmental services route and was advised that the licensing route would in this case require the environmental services avenue to be explored first.  I am pleased for local residents that this stage appears to have come to a successful conclusion.

I do hope that the £1,115 fine reported in the Woking News and Mail on Thursday 18th March does act as a deterrent and that the promised double glazing does materialise.  Residents can rest assured that if this is not the case their Lib-dem Knaphill Councillors will be raising the matter with the appropriate enforcement agencies for them to investigate.

As a member of the Woking Borough Council licensing committee it is difficult for me to comment further as should this issue become a licensing matter, I do not want to appear to have prejudged any hearing that I may become involved with.
